The IDF has arrested dozens of people and confiscated hundreds of AK-47 rifles and other military equipment belonging to Palestinians in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem, the military said Sunday.
The army said the raids were carried out by special units and were aimed at “stopping terror activities in the area” and preventing the smuggling of weapons and materials into Israel.
It did not provide details on the weapons seized.
In recent years, the IDF has repeatedly targeted armed groups and their commanders in the West Bank, where it is seeking to curb the movement of illegal arms and supplies that have enriched Hamas and other Palestinian militants.
Last year, it seized weapons and military equipment from the Hamas-run Gaza Strip.
The IDF said it did not know the identities of the persons arrested.
It did not give any details on what weapons were seized.
Hamas and other militant groups have launched rocket attacks into Israel, claiming it is part of an illegal Jewish state.
The Palestinian Authority and the United Nations consider Gaza to be under siege.
The Israeli military says Hamas and its allies fire rockets at Israel.
